Hi Jozee,
Yes, photography is allowed (no flash or tripods) except in the "special" exhibits areas...
The place was closing just as I arrived yesterday, but back in November I got a few shots on the inside -- I'll give the URL of three of them -- I've got to go back and take more...

Another GREAT museum in San Francisco is the Legion of Honor, out by the Cliff House...
