amber is precisely what i was thinking, mrs. pink. It looked, when i did come upon it, like a creature fossilized in amber.
brock: this one is tricky. i spotted it from outside my building just as i was prepared to enter the yellow lighted stairwell. the spider is on the window through which one can see this stairwell. the light source for the image is actually located at the bottom. so it is, in fact, lit from behind. i chose to adopt the spider's perspective [as seems fitting to me] and to have the image flipped vertically. that is the stairway railing leading up, at the top of the image...
