Chestnut Leaves and Weathered Paint

After shooting hundreds of photos with the Digital Rebel over the last two weeks, I needed a change. I took my $25, 1.3 megapixel toy digicam for a walk at lunchtime today.

Almost Calvinesque, isn't it? Or like when you do a monochrome overlay mask in Photoshop.

But I swear, they come out of the camera like this.

Cool effect. Doesn't need any changing.

Back to basics--nice. Many times it's not the special effects but the simple choice of subject matter and framing.

Monochrome Overlay? You have to show me how to do it. Great shot Gary. Good texture.

Calvin:

1. Create a duplicate layer
2. Convert it to monochrome ("remove color")
3. Apply Gaussian blur to it with a radius of 10-30 pixels.
4. Set the layer blending mode to "Overlay"
5. Adjust the opacity to taste.
