No matter how long I live, I will never get used to homeless people stretched out on the street relaxing.
Powerful shot nicely contrasted with the inequality of life so prevalent in our modern cities.

You know, I'm with you on that, Josie... When I see a homeless person, I always realize that that could be me...

And this might just be the last photo of a homeless person I will ever take without their permission... Just after I shot this, I heard a voice calling out -- "hey, that guy is taking your picture" -- I immediately knew I was in trouble so I started walking away, but the fellow who was calling out came around the corner and told me that it was illegal to take someone's picture without their permission... It could have gotten ugly, but I gave a brief apology and continued my escape... I was enveloped in a feeling of shame -- god, I really felt bad -- and really ashamed of myself... And I'm still ashamed of myself, and I think I'm going to forget about shooting the homeless, without their permission, in the future...

AphotoAday I've felt what you talk about, but over that was a tremendous, very real fear.
Like when I photographed a homeless area in Omaha for a story that never ran.
The undercurrent of drug trading in the area made in dangerous.
As for shame from photographing a human condition - that one I've only ever felt it was at child murder scenes and autopsies.
All of that was decades ago, but I never said never again because not photographing something makes it invisible and hides it from both the present and the future.

This is a good set, there's nothing exploitive about it.

moving, in this neighbourhood you see no homeless people. But not far from here, Groningen you do. I always realize that it could be me or you.
